Yup im the same. I could rip my music playlist off of Spotify, but I would lose the weekly playlist thst always contains one or hidden two gems, and the personalised dynamic playlists. For example, if you search “running” Spotify creates a dynamic playlist for running based on your tastes. I could do this myself but I wouldn’t know how. I’ve never been able to find my own music even before Spotify.

Did people who care about privacy actually buy Echos?..

And I suppose they also trust none of their books will be removed by amazon, despite evidence in contrary that Amazon sometimes does that.

I’m sorry for you Americans, but I think the US is really about to be screwed from within, and the world will be a better place without you.

Just goes to prove even with infinite money you can build successful software. It’s been a long time since MS created software that people love. The only current exceptions I can think of are not consumer products, but developer products: vscode and typescript.
- Comment on Might as well get a laptop??? 2 months ago:
Not people publicly traded or having to answer to investors is important because you don’t have to maintain forever increasing profits. You can take more risks and focus on your users needs. Most brands put out lame products because they are trying to keep a certain margin of profit.
- Comment on Might as well get a laptop??? 2 months ago:
I don’t believe Valve is selling them at a loss, but they definitely have less pressure to profit because they are not a publicly traded company.

- Comment on Telegram rolls out third-party account verification, filters 2 months ago:
I think they are trying to find ways to monetize the ecosystem without having to sell user data or more ads. Their generous inital fund won’t last forever. I use telegram daily but I never have to interact with any of the paid features. Telegram is also not pushy about them. But if you want them, they are there.
- Comment on Bluesky teases paid subscription, Bluesky+, in new mockup 2 months ago:
You should probably read that yourself. Monetization and premium features by themselves are not entshitification.

That’s why I initially thought twitter charging for blue checks was a good idea, because I thought they’d still be validating people’s identities.

Asking users for money is not entshitification.
- Comment on Bluesky teases paid subscription, Bluesky+, in new mockup 3 months ago:
Honestly, this doesn’t bother me at all. The list of features they will provide to premium users sound like good premium features for content creators and companies, and doesn’t affect the lives of simple content consumers. I think it’s great they are trying to find revenue streams to stay alive.
Asking users for money isn’t entshitification. Running a website isn’t free. But if they are already asking for venture capital, now that’s scary. Losing control of your vision to investors, that’s what causes entshitification.

Almost all brands nowadays are just trademarks with vague marketing around them. There’s no point in buying something for the brand. Always look into the specific product or service they are buy. Even brands that start as cult brands like One Plus eventually grow to be just another name. Nokia these days is literally just a name that has changed hands a few times.

I’m happy to bail out grocers on their overstock products that I usually buy anyway. But anywhere else I just don’t believe in sales.
- Comment on So uhh.. how often should I be washing me towels? 1 year ago:
Really depends how dry you make them. If you’re not able to dry and they stay damp all day I would throw them in the washing bin after a day or 2. If they dry out easily, maybe a week. But the smell test if best.
- Comment on How to stop thinking about an interaction from my past? 1 year ago:
You don’t forget it. You use it as a gauge of what nasty people are like and you progress the opposite direction. These interactions helped shape who you are. I’m so sorry you had to go through that. Never stop asking questions.
- Comment on I feel like I need a separate body towel (big towel), and 3 other small towels for hair, face, and hands. 4 towels in total. Is that normal? 1 year ago:
I like to use an old t-shirt for the hair. It helps preserve the curls shape.
