Oof, do NOT run a server over WIFI. If plain old Ethernet is not an option, get something like this which, no, is not cheap but will offer a MUCH better experience.

I've been playing Resonant (not on the Deck) and I have to say I prefer Control. Resonant isn't bad, the mechanics are fun but it's not a great sequel to Control. It just doesn't have the same feel Control does.

I got one of these and it's great. Fits the controller perfectly, is nicely weighted and connects/disconnects the puck effortlessly. Plus, if you don't feel like spending money on it and have access to a 3D printer they provide the design files for free!

It's pretty simple to assign custom actions and commands to the right trackpad. The left one too, but you specifically mentioned using your right thumb.

I can't speak for OP, but I have third-party joystick caps on my Steamdeck and the touch sensors still work fine.

The Deck gyro is activated by touching the thumbs ticks, the Controller has sensors in the grips to activate the gyro.

I got one during the closeout, I think it was $15 with a copy of Hollow Knight. But once I got it I started figuring, if I spent the time to get used to it then when it someday broke I'd be SOL on a replacement. So I stuck it on a shelf where it sits to this day.

As far as I'm aware, the trackpads are not physical "buttons", the click is generated purely through haptics. There wouldn't be any spring involved. Try pressing them when the unit is off, they're just immobile blocks of plastic.
