Factorio in docked mode on the tv. I can’t believe how well it runs. Looks just fine in 1080 or whatever on my 4k

Skate 3 Recomp, Windows version via Proton using Faugus. Freaking amazing.
thingsiplay@lemmy.ml 2 weeks ago
Man the community with the recent recompilations of old classics to play them natively and enhance them is crazy. I have to get into this too (but different games). I would have thought with the recompilation of a game on Windows, a native Linux version should be possible too.
warmaster@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
There’s already a Linux build, but it crashes more oftenly. I want to try the Daytona Recomp.
Red0ctober@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
Valheim has been my go to for awhile now. And when I’m struggling there, I boot up Ghost of Tsushima
uymai@lemmy.ca 2 weeks ago
Still on ufo 50, I think I’m at the end of cyberpunk: phantom liberty and dragging my feet /waiting to get a good chunk of time to fully pay attention to it, and just installed tunic and the witness
Fubarberry@sopuli.xyz 2 weeks ago
All good games, Tunic and the Witness are personal favorites of mine

Hades 2 and Dredge have been fun!
anakin78z@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
Playing Absolum. I’m pretty bad at it, but I’m having fun.
uninvitedguest@piefed.ca 2 weeks ago
This have caught me be surprise and I could barely put it down.
anakin78z@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
Yea, I saw it on a ‘best of the year’ list and had never heard of it before then. I’m glad they had a demo, because it hooked me.
gwl@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 week ago
Satisfactory, Megabonk, Haste
I’ve found I like having one that’s a real timesink kinda game, and 2-3 that are pick-up and play arcadey games
TheMinions@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 weeks ago
I picked up Control - Ultimate Edition a few months ago and beat it.
After playing God of War (2018), some of Hogwarts Legacy, and way too much Destiny and Destiny 2, I am very much tired of the:
“Upgraded gear makes you stronger and there are multiple rarity tiers of gear” mechanic.
I’m debating between playing Mass Effect Legendary (played the Original many times) or starting up FFVII Remake again — I’m about 7 hours into that one.
Rolive@discuss.tchncs.de 1 week ago
Indiana Jones and the great circle.
Graphically it’s mildly disappointing. For example the Sistine Chapel looks really bad in game and it takes long for the textures to pop in.
It’s quite playable though, the framerate is decent and in most areas the delayed textures are not an issue.
It is quite a buggy game though, it has that typical Bethesda jank to it.
Fubarberry@sopuli.xyz 1 week ago
Are you playing this on the Deck? It’s pretty impressive that it’s playable at all considering how terribly it ran at launch (well, wouldn’t run at all originally, but then ran terribly on Deck after getting some specific proton patches)
Rolive@discuss.tchncs.de 1 week ago
I would call it a good experience if you don’t mind the texture pop in. It has certainly made a 13h flight much more enjoyable.

Factorio. And it will always be factorio

GTA IV. Been craving a replay of this, and need a hit of GTA before the next big installment.

Black Flag Resynced. Obligatory “fuck Ubisoft,” but I loved the original and I’ve been loving the remaster. And I’m pretty sure this is the first Ubisoft title I’ve bought since the original. It runs surprisingly well on the Deck if you limit it to 30FPS and put it on one of the handheld settings.
That is, I love it when I can play it. I’ve been traveling this weekend, and if I want to run the game I need to connect the Deck to my phone’s hotspot to start the game. It can run disconnected, just needs to be connected to start it. But fortunately the Deck suspends and wakes just fine while the game is already running, so I’ve just left it going.
(Obviously it looks much better if I play on my PC or stream it to the Deck from the PC, but I’ve been glad to be able to play it on the go with minimal fuss.)

I’m in the middle of replaying Cyberpunk and finishing my fourth playthrough of Silksong. A friend also just got me neon white so I’ve been playing that too. Other than that still the occasional windblown run when I can convince my husband to play
dmir@gehirneimer.de 1 week ago
What's your model, settings and experience for Cyberpunk 2077?
I'm thinking about a handheld playthrough at 40 FPS and Hz and wonder what battery life, fan noise and temps to expect from this thing.
Also, are you playing with or without the Phantom Liberty DLC?
Fubarberry@sopuli.xyz 2 weeks ago
How is Windblown? Been considering playing it with a friend
toomanypancakes@crazypeople.online 2 weeks ago
I adore it, I’ve sunk like 300 hours into it so far. Definitely worth picking up, especially if you can hook a friend!

I finally picked up palworld on the deck (previously had it on ps5). I have been playing that a bit.
tiberius@lemmy.ca 2 weeks ago
Palworld is addicting. I tried Pokemon, Monster Sanctuary, Coromon, Cassette Beasts, and Nexomon. Bounced off all of them. Who knew that adding base building, shifting to a 3rd person view, and adding a million things to do would make it stick with me.
nocturne@slrpnk.net 2 weeks ago
I get bored rather quickly with Palworld. I will play for a month or so solid, then put it down for 8+ months. But I do that with pokemon too.
thingsiplay@lemmy.ml 2 weeks ago
Hope it is cross compatible and you don’t have to start all over again.
nocturne@slrpnk.net 2 weeks ago
It is not, and I did have to start over again.
thingsiplay@lemmy.ml 2 weeks ago
It would be boring if I started talking about RetroArch again… so I will not mention it. At the moment I’m not playing too much on the Steam Deck, or in general for that matter. But I started recently playing Wreckfest, which is like Destruction Derby on Playstation (I’m old). Still early on and need to see if its any good in todays day and age.
I also want to go back to Shenmue 3, as a fan of the original Shenmue 1 and 2 on the Dreamcast. It feels like I would emulate an old game, lol. Man, I’m such a sucker for these oldschool games. There is also a new enhanced edition of Shenmue 3 upcoming, not sure if its worth the price and wait. Maybe I get it for free as an owner of the original version, just like that Rockstar did with GTA 5. Or maybe a discount…
TheMinions@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 weeks ago
No, tell me your emulated recommendations!
I usually play Pokemon ROMhacks, but started playing Kirby Air Rider and Mario Sunshine.
Also Shadow of the Colossus. Granted none of the properly titled games are Retroarch, but I digress.
thingsiplay@lemmy.ml 2 weeks ago
I actually force myself to play less emulation and more “normal” games. :D On my Steam Deck I use RetroArch Steam version almost exclusively to play emulation (which does not come with Playstation 2 core on the Steam store, I could install it myself but don’t want to manage my own version of the core). So it’s mostly old systems. As for more modern systems and games, I’m looking into DS and PSP. But didn’t start anything on them right now.
Often I just end up exploring new or random games with the intention of just trying them out for a short time, and that’s it then. Especially with Arcade, DOS or Amiga. I’m also into Romhacks and play MSU1 based SNES games with different soundtracks and additional enhancements. Then I try various Super Mario World Romhacks, but could not decide on which to take on and finish. Same for Super Metroid Romhacks. Man there are so many good ones.
- F-Zero Deluxe (SNES Romhack, 2024): F-Zero courses from a dead Nintendo satellite service restored using VHS and AI actually didn’t play this this week, but loved it so much and it was fun, especially with MSU1 soundtrack
- Deception 3 - Dark Delusion (Playstation, 1999): www.mobygames.com/…/deception-iii-dark-delusion/ still need to finish, love the soundtrack but controls are not good and enemy ai is just bad
- Alundra (Playstation, 1997): www.mobygames.com/game/5928/alundra/ a classic top down action adventure, just started it, I’m still in the beginning and curious because my friend told me since the 90s about the game
So probably not the stuff you are into, given the titles and systems you mentioned. Switch is also installed, but because I have a PC to run Switch games much better, I actually end up never playing it on the Deck.

Just started with Moonstone Island on my new steam machine
kokomo@reddit.kokomo.cloud 2 weeks ago
Just now started playing Denshattack! on Steam Deck, it’s been really fun. Never knew i would appreciate arcade-style train hopping, parkour hybrid mixed into a pretty cool story around post-climate crisis Japan.
Fubarberry@sopuli.xyz 2 weeks ago
I was pretty interested in Denshattack, but when trying the demo I found the combo inputs to be really hard to do reliably. Have you had any trouble with that? I was hoping they would improve it for the full game
kokomo@reddit.kokomo.cloud 2 weeks ago
Not really, it can get some getting used to but default controls are flicking the right joystick around for the tricks. then with button combos you can get going pretty easily so I was able to get some sick moves while jumping rails
Fubarberry@sopuli.xyz 2 weeks ago
I’ve been playing a couple games:
-
Sea of Stars - Been wanting to play this a long time, and it’s similar in some ways to the Golden Sun games, which are my favorite JRPGs. However the combat is slow, and the skill lock mechanic is actively unfun a lot of the time. Not sure if I’m going to play much more, I might tweak the difficulty settings to make combat really easy and just “skip” that part of the game.
-
Dragonsword awakening - basically was a heavily genshin inspired gacha game, that got reworked into a full premium release. Pretty fun if you want a game like Genshin but without any f2p crap.
-
Sifu - Really good combat game, I flip back and forth between feeling like a martial god and a bumbling idiot.
tiberius@lemmy.ca 2 weeks ago
I feel your pain with the lock system in Sea of Stars. Sometimes you can only get it 80% power and just take the damage. There was a point early in the game where I was low on items and HP. I knew I would die in the next regular fight. I died and backtracked to craft more healing items from fish to get me over the hump.
Fubarberry@sopuli.xyz 2 weeks ago
I have a lot of issues with it.
-
If you try to break locks, to usually have to save your abilities/empowered attacks to be able to do that in the number of turns provided. Enemies also take reduced damage while channeling locked abilities (60% reduced in my game). So you’re encouraged to save all your strongest damaging abilities for when enemies take the least damage, making fights a slow awful grind.
-
Alternatively, ignore breaking locks, and save abilities for when enemies aren’t locked. Finish fights way faster, but the lock abilities are really strong and punishing.
-
Enemy locks aren’t staggered, multiple enemies will use lock abilities at the same time, making breaking them impossible and sometimes leading to impossible fights due to RNG.
-
Enemy locks sometimes require damage types that haven’t been unlocked yet (ie requiring poison before you get a poison character).
Just overall the lock system is supposed to add carefuld decision making to combat about what abilities to use and who to prioritize, but I feel like it almost never works out that way, and instead just makes combat really slow and unfun.

In the middle of another New Vegas playthrough.

Same. This file has been going for years, on and off. No other game does this to me.
Same time, same game 10 years from now?

Jigsaw Puzzle Dreams - F2P jigsaw puzzle game that supports multiplayer. You can use custom images after a DLC purchase but the base game has a good sample of puzzles. My first 500 piece puzzle took 10 hours to do. It tickles my nonogram crave as I hit a skill wall in Voxelgram. I would recommend.
Ara Fell - 2D RPG. Simple combat. Story is cheesy but I needed more calcium in my gaming diet. I would also recommend.

Been playing Caves of Qud recently. Hadn’t played it since I hit the current endpoint in early access (IIRC it ended after Bethesda Susa) so I am catching up to the current version. Just looking for a god damn zetachrome weapon for my golem to climb the spindle. Fucking things never drop 😩

Steam Deck.
The Talos Principle. It's actually my first time playing the game despite having learned about it near launch and having seen some footage and just wondering at this mysterious puzzle-solving adventure set in such beautiful locations... And it's every bit wonderful, much more than I had expected. And there's so much reading, too! I actually love that part and how it's executed, because it allows me to choose whether to go lore-learning, puzzle-solving or secrets-hunting. The latter is especially amazing here: I love spending days on trying to get to something only to learn that the solution lies in a different direction and turns out to be much simpler. I wonder if that's intended or it's just me.
Half-Life. A while ago I tried playing THE FINALS with gyro only and quickly found out that I gravitate towards the dual-trackpad control scheme, allowing me to achieve more and do less. However, a fast-paced online shooter that is also as demanding wasn't the perfect choice for every time I grabbed the deck, so I tried finally beating Half-Life on Hard - and got humbled. I had thought I was kinda good with gyro, but apparently not. All the better, as it led to me mixing mouse input on the right trackpad combined with gyro as opposed to committing to gyro entirely, the latter doesn't being that much comfortable or precise on a Steam Deck, essentially rotating your controller with your screen.
I will probably pick up THE FINALS on the Steam Deck again, too, with S11 introducing bot matches. Could be a great and fun way to practice or warm up before joining someone's team and contributing a fraction of a fraction of what I can with mouse and keyboard at least semi-predictably.
Fubarberry@sopuli.xyz 1 day ago
For competitive or fast paced shooters, I really like to combine gyro with flickstick, where the right Thumbstick exists only to instantly turn your character to face any direction, and then they gyro is used for any aiming beyond that. It’s especially nice for horde shooter type games where you have to constantly turn around and shoot at enemies behind you.
dmir@gehirneimer.de 1 day ago
Given how trigger-happy THE FINALS is with the ban hammer towards gyro players, I really doubt I'd be taking my chances with flickstick in that game.
But I've been thinking about for a while for singleplayer games, yeah. Thinking about the new DOOM trilogy for this.
