Keep in mind Linux had this opportunity during netbooks, Microsoft simply forced them to abandon Linux and threatened contracts. Yes, many computers shipped Linux and in what I can only describe as a blatantly illegal move (and cornering of the market) Microsoft forced them to use Windows. If OEMs like Dell or HP start selling as many Linux PCs as Windows PCs Microsoft can just threaten contracts.

Most people dont use Windows because its compatible with more software, they use it because thats what their computer came with. If computers just starting shipping Linux then software will come.

That too, as well as in professional and government settings.

Marketing and market availability are the biggest problems. People need to be able to go into any store, buy a handheld/laptop/desktop and have it include Linux without them asking.

Windows Gamers (who will never switch to Linux): Linux still isn’t ready for mass adoption

No I mean genuenly you dont need then, maybe they preform better but strictly speaking proprietary drivers arent nessesary. You could just as easily not install them and the vast majority of people wont notice the 5% performance penalty.
- Comment on End of 10 is a campaign to move people over to Linux with Windows 10 support ending 2 weeks ago:
Most people who just have a PC don’t have a DGPU, for those who do the built in open source driver is good enough for 99% of use cases. People heavily exaggerate how much you need the proprietary drivers and you can always install them later if you really want (its not needed in the vast majority of cases to get it booting).

I feel like eveyone should reccomend Fedora KDE edition, its close enough to Windows for new users and modern enough to not push people away.

I find it absolutely hilarious that every single company has a “Steam Deck killer” yet not a single one of them have any idea what made the Steam Deck popular, all they understand is PC handheld with controller (Lenovo is starting to catch on tho).
- Comment on [Leak] Steam Controller 2 render thumbnail leaked in SteamVR drivers 5 months ago:
Non concave? Square trackpads? Clear preference to analog sticks? This seems like a worse Xbox controller on the surface. Unless the ergonomics are somehow amazing I would be hesitant to buy it (and I own an original steam controller).
- Comment on Sony is reportedly working on a PS5 portable 5 months ago:
The problem is that handhelds need games that are easy to get and out of. PC has tons of those games while the PS4/PS5 has very few of. Also while some people want to play console games on the go it’s less fun on a smaller screen.
- Comment on Sony is reportedly working on a PS5 portable 5 months ago:
If they just released a handheld PC but with their UI and store as default it would probrally make tons of money, of course that means respecting their customers so its unlikely.
- Comment on Sony is reportedly working on a PS5 portable 5 months ago:
IMO for this to have any chance against the Switch 2 it needs to be able to run PC games. Ps5 is already struggling with very few games (with most of them likely not working in such a handheld format), it needs something to sell on. Meanwhile Microsoft just needs a handheld compatible with gamepass and they’re basically set.
- Comment on Leak: Valve is making a Steam Controller 2 and a ‘Roy’ for its Deckard 6 months ago:
Personally I think a steam controller 2 should have one large touchpad, two thumbsticks, and abxy (also keep the shape and add USB c)

So basically just the Xbox controller?

Entitled? Nintendo didn’t produce this code nor did they make this, what exactly do you think is being demanded of Nintendo?
- Comment on The Plucky Squire recently came out, and used the Steam Deck to represent PC 8 months ago:
the operating system and user interface is optimized for gaming
Most of the “optimizations” are either generic Linux improvements that exist in many distros or are can be easily installed on any PC. Meanwhile the UI is literally just Steam gamepadui, any PC could access it, any PC can launch Steam on boot and set Steam to launch into Steam big picture mode. The only optimizations are just a set of good defaults and software that works well together.
Its a console that can be targeted
Yeah because its a popular piece of hardware running amazing software, thats something Windows handhelds dont have. What people dont understand about SteamOS is it isn’t that optimized, thats because Linux is so optimized as an OS that Valve doesn’t need to do much on top of it.
- Comment on The Plucky Squire recently came out, and used the Steam Deck to represent PC 8 months ago:
It plays PC games, runs a PC OS, has a PC DE (KDE Plasma), includes standard PC ports (with a dock that includes even more standard PC ports), has a standard PC uefi bios, uses a PC APU, and has a PC like trackpad along with a virtual keyboard. Also if a game works well with controllers itll work well with Steam Deck (even if it doesn’t it usually works well). Functionally speaking how is this different then a tablet PC with a controller? (In terms of if its a PC)
- Comment on The Plucky Squire recently came out, and used the Steam Deck to represent PC 8 months ago:
The steam deck arguably does a very good job at representing PC Gaming, hopefully more developers do this
