Oh man! Can I use it like the U-Force?

… I had one.
I played top gun with it. A lot.

Broderbund made it‽ It must have been awesome!
I miss that company…

MSNlisted it as one of the top 10 worst game peripherals, writing "Second only to the Sega Activator in terms of all-out crappiness, the U-Force also used infrared sensors to create a truly nightmarish controller...'Don’t Touch' said the adverts for the device, in a rare example of an advertising campaign that got it spot on

If this is true, this is a really cool feature, and I would be curious to see how it could be utilized with Steam Input for most games.
That’s the thing. Everyone seems positive about this but… what do you do with it?

I’m also curious how developers use this feature. The Dreamcast VMUs were a cool idea but it never caught on.
ArtVandelay@lemmy.world 2 months ago
I wonder if it could sense when you were about to pick it up and start the power on or wake up process

“Man, I really got to get to work. Let me just tidy up a bit before I go and move this steam controller of the couch aaaaaaannnnndddd now I might as well play some Balatro since the deck is on anyway”
LuigiMaoFrance@lemmy.ml 2 months ago
…what, so we save a fraction of a second before we’d press the button anyway?

tl;dr for the part that matters to me: still not even a hint of a release date or even an announcement
aBundleOfFerrets@sh.itjust.works 2 months ago
They say early 2026
Grass@sh.itjust.works 2 months ago

My VR controllers can’t even properly tell when I’ve set them down and they have touch sensors in them. I do not know why sometimes setting the controllwrs down, still has them being tracked with my hands until I go out of my way to show my empty palms to the tracking cameras.
AceOnTrack@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 months ago
I need a controller that can tell how hard I am mashing the buttons and games reacting appropriately.
Fubarberry@sopuli.xyz 2 months ago
They have keyboards like that, but other than analog triggers I don’t know of any controllers with that feature.

Sony Sixaxis. 256 degrees of being pressed on basically every button but two.

Force sensor, accelerometer, … 🤣

@Fubarberry I'm waiting for one of these so hard! I want a better experience playing rim world with the deck docked to my tv. Xbox controller works but it's not fun to use. I have an original steam controller but I never found it a good fit. Something closer to the steam deck would be perfect!
