The way I’ve been using so far on my half life 2 run is to reload. I double tap the right one to do so, it’s very satisfying to me

Are there any cheaper alternatives to steam controller, the ones which also support the gyroscope and touch pads? I would like to buy something like steam controller, if it did not cost like $300 usd.

The Stream Controller is $100. Considering the quality is on-par with the PS/Xbone controllers and has the extra features, I doubt you’ll find one cheaper.

The original price is $100, but due to very high demand and very low supply, every store that even has one for sale, the price is absurdly high. Are there any alternatives to steam controller which also support gyroscope and touchpads, but are not that expensive?

Gyroscope, yes: DualShock 4, Dualsense or some 8BitDos. Touchpads: No. None that work as good as Valve’s touchpads or actually integrate with Steam at least.

Darkwalker shotpad actually looks interesting, and is actually cheap. Despite not having a controller input, i wanted a controller with gyro and trackpads specifically to play games with no controller support.

My reservation has come up for one of these. Do y’all recommend one? I currently use a PS4 controller for my pc and steam deck gaming (while docked to the tv)

It’s fucking great. Best controller I’ve ever used. If you can afford it, it’s worth it.
noxypaws@pawb.social 2 weeks ago
Yes. I love mine. Wouldn’t have anything else at this point.

Do you ever want to use a desktop PC or play RTS style games without a mouse and keyboard? Then yes, 100%, it’s the best thing for it. Otherwise it just seems to be a really solid controller.

Yes, I used a ps4 controller as well before, much better experience!

Its probably an unpopular opinion, but I don’t like Grip Sense. I mean its a lot of movement to activate a function. I have seen suggestions to use it to activate normal functions like a menu button or pause. I feel like a quick button press would be much quicker. In example while my hand let go of the handle to activate a state, then I can’t use that hand in the moment to do anything else. Also while doing so the weight shifts towards one end.
I’m probably not very creative in that “sense”. Maybe it can be fun to play with games that are centered around Gyro. But what could that be?
Deconceptualist@leminal.space 3 weeks ago
It’s an option in addition to all the other buttons and inputs. The main use case is for ratcheting/re-centering gyro controls. But yeah some people like their game to just auto-pause when they let go of the controller, or to bring up a map screen.
I agree it’s not so useful at times when you need your digits on all the other inputs, but that’s not really what it’s for anyway.

If you adjust the sensitivity, you can make it not require very much movement.
That said, I personally haven’t found a use case where I prefer it over other options.

One thing I liked the grips for was Death Stranding, pack stabilizer grips. Set them as double press to grip. Worked well.

I would be nervous about making it too sensitive, so that only little movement is enough. It could get a little bit twitchy and activate function without me wanting to. Maybe I should actually experiment with the settings and there is maybe a good middle ground for me, and find some use cases just to play around. But I will say that, it’s a novelty and pretty cool idea to come up with by VALVE. I don’t think any controller had something like this before.

Emulated Splatoon? Well, emulated Nintendo switch games in general
thingsiplay@lemmy.ml 3 weeks ago
Hmm, I was thinking about Steam only games, because that would be the use case for this controller for me. I emulate Switch games too and play them with a “regular” controller (8bitdo).
Maybe some Horror games…
